The rainbow is the colour spectrum; it runs from the slowest wavelength (red) to the quickest (violet). Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. I was taught to remember it as "Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain", but there is also "Roy G. Biv" to help as convenient memory aids.

The colours in the correct order are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. A good way to remember the correct order is by this little statement: Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain. Each word's initial letter corresponds to a colour.( red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet).
