Qualifying the "best" scanner for mac depends on what version of MAC OS you are using. Most scanners on the market nowadays are the same, save for driver support. Since Snow Leopard has just been released, it would be advisable to search for driver compatibility first. If the scanner has no mac drivers, try using VUESCAN.

It depends on what you are looking for, there is no such thing as "The best". Also there are no scanners that are exclusive to Mac. Try searching online, narrow your search by figuring out what you prioritize: Price? Surface area? dpi? Color? There are several computer hardware web stores out there, my suggestion is newegg.com

There are a couple of options out there for you. I'd look into both the Workforce Pro GT-S50 from Epson and the HP ScanJet G3110
