Rosemary, catnip, citronella grass and marigolds help repel mosquitoes. Citronella candles and torches are effective. There is a "mosquito plant" that gets good reviews, but it generally is available via Internet sales. Install a couple of bat houses near your patio. Bats consume up to one-half their body weight in mosquitoes in a single evening.

The best natural non chemical or non toxic way to get rid of mosquitoes is too look for their breeding places and destroy them. Look for any standing water and drain it or fill it up with dirt.

Lots of things work... almost all are toxic. If you're comfortable with natural wildlife, you should seriously consider building or purchasing a bat house. Bats are natural predators of small insects like mosquitoes and one small brown bat can eat nearly 1000 insects in one hour. Plans for houses or kits can be easily found online.

You can purchase a thing a ma jig that issues sound waves that scare of mosquitoes. It is expensive up front, but pays for itself. These are very effective. You can buy them at any hardware store and they vary in price. Also you may want to try citronella. It may not work as well though.
