Use a solution of equal portions of white glue and water, sugar and water (boil rapidly, remove from heat and let cool), or epsom salts and water (boil the water and stir in the epsom salts). Dip the crochet item in the solution and gently squeeze to remove the excess. Pin the item to hold its shape until dry.

For around six dollars a bottle, depending on the brand, you can purchase spray on stiffener for your crafts. It's easy and effective. All you have to do is put down a drop cloth, spray it and then let it dry.
