What is the best detergent for an HE clothes washer?

I've had great success with Tide. Costco has their own brand of HE Detergent that does a wonderful job and isn't terribly expensive.

You need to pick a detergent that suits your family. If they have any allergies I would buy one that is allergen free. If not their all the same.

Any national brand detergent marked "HE" should work well. Your owner's manual may recommend a specific brand. "HE" detergents are low-sudsing, which is very important for machines that use less rinse water. They also contain special ingredients to help prevent dye transfer. My favorite is Tide HE unscented; your choice will vary depending on your water hardness and scent preference.
