I have a few faves. My top pick is The Bartender's Black Book, because it's the most complete guide I've ever found. Another of my top picks is The Big Bad-Ass Book of Shots. You'll wow them every time because with this one, you'll come up with something new every time you open it.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Bartending is a good resource for bartending. It not only includes common drinks, like a simple basic martini, but also more complex and trendy drinks. Since any party or bar will have a variety of guests, it is good to know different types of drinks to satisfy all of them.
