I always start with the wetsuit. I bought mine at the Dive shop in Tucson and it was about $85.00. I got a mask/snorkel combo for around $30.00. The fins came in at around $30.00 as well. I pick up a used regulator for $120. So the total amount would run about $265.00

Scuba equipment definently NOT cheap. DOnt expect to pay less than 200 dollars for good equipement. THe most you might pay is 500 dollars, but it depends on your level on scuba diving and hat exactly you need.
