Cover the windows with some kind of beautiful fabric. Also you can buy something called gels to put on top of the lights that are up high. Also you could buy battery operated candles. Shut off most of the lights in the church and use the candles as a mood setter.

The best suggestion for toning down the lights in the church would be to speak to your pastor to see if something can be done to mask the light.
