Percocet is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen. Oxycodone is a narcotic analgesic and acetaminophen is in the NSAID family of drugs like aspirin (name brand acetaminophen is Tylenol). Percocet is prescribed for moderate to severe pain such as one has after traumatic injury, major surgery, or burns. Because oxycodone is a narcotic, prescriptions aren't given out lightly.
