Middle Child Syndrome is a theory that applies literally to the middle child of a family. The oldest child would get attention because they were the first. The last child would get attention because they are the youngest. The theory is that the middle child receives less attention, and throughout life the middle will have behavior based on this.

"Middle child syndrome" relates to a child born in a family of three or more children. If he/she is neither the first or last he is called the middle child. Sometimes it is thought that this child doesn't get enough parental attention and consequently has "middle child syndrome."
