What is it like to be in the Coast Guard?

I'm curious about the Coast Guard as a career. Is it hard work? What is training like? Are the benefits good?

Being in the Coast Guard is what you make it. Yes, some of the training is hard but the hard work pays off. Of course, the government benefits are goo and great insurance. Training is long, it is at least 18 weeks but after that your good. You can travel and see the world.

Serving in this branch can be rewarding, but the work is dangerous. Training will teach your specific job. Govenment benefits include medical insurance, paid vacation, and retirement after 20 years.

Yes, it is hard work. If you like the water (particularly swimming and water rescue), and boats, you are going to enjoy it. Benefits are excellent (along with job security).
