You also need to make sure you have enough revenue to set up and operate the rink. You should have some extra funds too should it take a while for the skating rink to become popular.

Take preemptive legal measures. Skating can be a dangerous activity for novices, and in our highly litigious society, I'd get the legal aspect covered. Talk to a lawyer that specializes in torts, and especially negligence. If possible, reach out to other skating rinks to get some advice.

If it's ice skating -- get a zamboni! And an organ! :)

Like with any other major business, you have to be able to get a business license and meet all safety and health care standards. When you open a skating rink, you have to be aware of all potential disclaimers.

The best crowded place in the town or city must be considered when to open this kind of business. This is related with the number of customers; more customers more revenues to the business.

Create a detailed business plan to walk through all the aspects of starting such a business. Specifics will include licenses and permits, insurance, a location and suitable space, a Zamboni, employees, concessions, utilities, instructors, parking, requirements for accommodating disabled/handicapped visitors, advertising/marketing, classes, instructors, etc. Then you'll have a better handle on necessary capital as well as operating expenses.

In order to open a business such as a skating rink, one must find a proper location and either build or renovate to suit the business. Also, one must also have the proper finances and credit in order to get a loan to begin preparations for the business.

You need to make sure the area is in need of a skate rink. Make sure enough people would come. Then get someone who knows how to build one.

A ton of work and money it really depends on what kind of rink you are looking to open roller rink or ice rink the other thing it depends on is what you already have to start with if you already have the building the cost won't be to bad but there will still be tons of work.
