To make a comforter, you'll have to have some intermediate sewing skills. You'll need to cut out two large pieces of fabric and sew them together inside out, except for the bottom end. Turn the fabric right side out, fill the inside with cotton batting, and then sew closed the last end.

A comforter requires a top, a bottom, the batting for in between, and a way to fasten the three layers together. If piping or edging is used, this is a fourth element. The batting must have the highest loft you can afford for a winter or a low loft for warmer climates. Yarn will be needed to tie it together.

You are going to need to choose fabric and then get a stuffing for the inside. Make sure you have double the size you want the comforter to be.

There will be a lot of sewing involved in making a comforter. You will need to pick out fabrics and some sort of light cotton padding as well. Having a sewing machine will be handy too.

Actually, to make a comforter, you'll need lots of down leaves. Also, it is not a very simple task. You will have to serge all of the areas. It will take about a day to complete if working non stop. It is a tedious task and that is why the price of a comforter is very high.

Two large pieces of fabric are needed. The size of each piece should be as large as the desired finished comforter plus enough fabric for seam allowance. A filling is also needed as well as a sewing machine, thread, and scissors.
