A small biopsy sample of the depigmented skin for microscopic examination should show total absence of the pigment producing cells or melanocytes, or may reveal a different diagnosis. Blood tests for thyroid function, cell count, and antinuclear antibodies can help.A simple eye examination looking for inflammation may be positive in vitiligo.

This is a visible disease, so your doctor will examine your body. A biopsy of the skin could also be done, along with blood work to test thyroid function, cell count and antibodies.

Basically,an examination of the body. It is a very visible disease. A physician may also perform a biopsy of the skin to cancel out anything else it could be.
