Do you really want to get rid of the horns on your pygmy goats? The horns act as a cooler which connects to the sinus cavities. If you live in a hot area you should consider this fact before you make your decision. Talk to a livestock vet for advice.

A gigli saw or wire saw can be used to remove the horns in pygmy goats. Should have a handle on both ends and literally be a wire in between. You should remove about 2 inches from the skull. Unfortunately a vein runs through the horn so it will bleed.

dehorning goats can be extremely painful. you have someone cut off the horns leaving the cavities to the sinus wide open which you need to clean every day and keeping the flies out so taht they don't lay eggs in the cavities till they heal and the fur grow back

The most important thing is to know what you're doing so you don't mess up and hurt the goats. Get someone who knows what to do to help you.

There are many ways to de horn a goat. One is rubber banding but the bands often fall off. Sawing them off is the suggested way. It is not cruel to the goat and is fairly easy.

How on earth can you say it isn't cruel? It is like removing the claws from a cat. It can be extremely painful and can take up to 3 months for the holes to close up and then another 2 months or so for the hair to grow back!  add a comment
