Florida's law of abandoned vehicles dictates that any wrecker removing an an abandoned car be state certified. When police remove a car, they have to contact the State Department to ensure that they have the correct name and address of the vehicle's owner.

A notice is placed on the vehicle stating that the vehicle must be moved within 5 days. After that, it is towed. The owner of the vehicle is responsible for towing charges and storage fees up to 45 days. If the vehicle is not claimed, it is disposed of at the discretion of law enforcement.
