Trainers footwear is different from regular foot wear because it is made for you to be athletic in. The shoes are made for certain physical activities. Good running shoes are made for great arch support and breath better to prevent sweaty feet. Shoes for other sports have cleats for better traction.

Do you mean cross trainers? They are just made to be able to do a variety of things with them on. There is nothing really different except that they are not made strictly for running.

Trainer's are interchangeable with athletic. Its simply the British term for "training shoe." However, it can also mean "running shoe" which is a brand of shoe specialized with a design for runners.

Trainer's footwear is different because it is sporty yet functional. The sleek look, support and light weight seem to blend seemlesly and encourage better athletic performance. Trainer's footwear is of a higher quality as well.
