This is a common skin problem and allergy or genetics can have caused this problem. It can be itchy for the animal so try using some mild but moisturizing shampoo like the oatmeal ones and that will help soothe the irritated skin. Medication can also help such as creams and ointments.

Eczema is caused by an auto-immune deficiency, which is not understood or curable. Allergens exacerbate eczema, so it helps to reduce the allergens in your dog's environment.

The canine version of eczema, hot spots as they're often called, is caused generally by a bacterial infection that spreads pretty rapidly. It usually occurs in the Spring and Summer seasons, but can happen at any time of the year. It is important to keep the dog from scratching, rubbing, licking or causing further aggravation of the area.

Dogs can be allergic to a variety of things in the house, like dust mites and carpet molds, or things outside, like pollens, trees, flowers, insects and molds.
