Obelisk is a pillar-like monument with a pyramid shaped head. This form of statue originates from ancient Egypt but were common also in early Assyrian, Roman and Byzantine cultures. From 16th century onward obelisks were erected all over the world, most known obelisk probably being the World's tallest obelisk, The Washington Monument (555 feet tall), finished in 1884.

An obelisk is a tall pointed pillar. They are often used as monuments, like the Washington Monument, or for grave markers.
