Blood test used to detect inflammation by measuring the rate at which erythrocytes precipitate in a test tube containing an anticoagulant. Fast precipitation rated (high ESR) indicate the presence of inflammatory proteins and therefore orient the diagnosis to some kind of inflammatory condition.
