A nation is said to be in an economic problem when there is dearth of multiple resources. This could be lack of liquidity in the market, high unemployment rate, high inflation, low consumer sentiment towards market and so on. It can emerge if the government's policies fail or and external factors affect the general consumer market.

An economic problem is when there is not enough people spending money on products. The amount people spend is what makes the economy go round. It surfaces when prices for items become too high and the demand outweighs the price. It can be touch and go they usually last for a few years until jobs pick up and money flows.

An economic problem is a problem that can be tied to the flow (or lack thereof) of money, goods and services. Unemployment is a lack of paying jobs.
