Think of electricity as a flow like water. Volts are the water pressure. Amps are the flow rate, how fast the water flows. With high water pressure, even a low flow can cause harm (why high voltage can kill, despite amperage).

Water pipes are a good metaphor for amps and volts. The amps are the size of the pipes while the volts are the speed at which the water is moving.
