A mage in World of Warcraft is an in-game character who casts spells and is a glass cannon. If you mean, why does your son want to be one in the game, he obviously has taken an interest in that type of character. If you mean otherwise, he's obviously caught up in the allure of the game.

It is a playable character on an online game called World of Warcraft. There you create a character with the caracteristic you like and a class. Mage is one of the classes you can chose in the game. They can use magic powers and have an enormous amount of magic point, but they are physicaly weak.
