The "G" is silent, it rhymes with "Hero". Drives me nuts to hear the G pronounced.

A traditional Gyro Sandwich is made from lamb roasted on a vertical spit. When a sandwich is ordered, the meat is sliced on the spit, and put on a bun. If eating at a Middle Eastern restaurant, the meat will probably be served on unleavened bread, such as Pita. In the Middle East, street vendors sell this type of sandwich.

It's a Greek version of a fast food sandwich, it consists of various rotisseried meats, salad vegetables such as tomatoes, lettuce and onions, along with a yogurt-based tzatziki sauce. These ingredients are placed on a hearty form of grilled pita bread and served as a wrap sandwich.

A Gyro sandwich is a greek dish. It is a slice of pita bread filled with strips of lamb and topped with tomatoes and onions. It is then topped with a cucumber yogurt sauce. Sometimes it will be served with feta cheese or olives on the side.
