When walking as exercise you should walk at a pace that will increase your heart rate, this will vary by person, depending on your physical fitness level. You should check your pulse as you walk and make certain it is within your ranges. Always speak with your doctor prior to any exercise

The average fitness pace is approximately equivalent to a 15 minute mile. However, the best pace will vary according to your level of fitness/technique and the terrain on which you are walking.

You should aim for about 15 minutes per mile -- faster than your normal pace. That will vary depending on how hilly the walk is.

Approximately walking consumes 0.035 calories of energy per KM (Jagging=0.038). So it is not advisable to have high pace for calorie burning. A Good pace should sweat your body or increase the distance to give enough exercise. Typically a Pace of 7 KMPH is good enough for walking with to have a good body and weight reduction.
