There are many plants/trees to eat up the ammonia in your fish tank. Here are a couple cabomba Java moss vallisneria On a side note, your tank shouldn't have any ammonia once fully cycled. I suggest you reading about the nitrogen cycle to get a better idea.

You may wish to consider a prepacked tablet instead. The trees tend to take much longer to rid the tank of ammonia and sometimes over do it.

Water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) seems to remove ammonia quicker from water. However, there are many other species (like Spirodela oligorrhiza) available for ammonia removal. However, consult the best aquarium dealer.

It is always best not use to medicine then it can be avoided. So there are conditions to use medicine. If we do decide to use medication, remove only that carbon part of filter. That product is called Cycle. It is supposed to add some bacteria to kill the medications.
