The play was first introduced in the year 1879. It was penned by a Norwegian man named Henrik Ibsen. The play was considered cutting edge at the time because it really questioned the institution of marriage in the 1800's. Some people also link the play with feminism.

The play is about a husband and wife. The wife forges a loan, used to pay for medical treatment to save the husband's life. When he finds out about the loan, he's ashamed instead of thankful, and she ends up leaving him.
