Cankers are a common and serious problem in the Leyland cypress. It causes branches to die back to the main trunk and can disfigure or even kill the tree. One method of treatment is to prevent spread of the canker (which is a fungus) by spraying with a fungicide and pruning ONLY in dry periods. Insect problems include bagworms.
