A close-ended question is one in which there is a simple answer to the question. There is a right or wrong answer in contrast to an open-ended question in which there are different answers according to different interpretations or viewpoints. Examples would be "How old are you?", "How tall are you?", or "Is that your mother?"

Closed-ended questions have two possible answers. The possible answers are typically "yes" or "no". Examples of close-ended questions are: Did you understand the instructions?, Were you injured in the accident?, Do you have a college degree?, Can I help you?, Do you decorate your home for the holidays?, and Did you enjoy the movie?
