A camshaft positioning sensor communicates with the engine's control module so that the engine can correctly determine the ignition timing and fuel delivery. It is usually hard to diagnose as it can cause a lot of problems with various engine components.

a camshaft sensor tells your computer where your crankshaft is so it knows when your engine is at TDC to start the next firing order, It's part of your electrical egnition timing system. Usually if your looking straight down at the top of your engine the camshaft sensor will be to your right at the end of your camshaft
