If left unchecked, a melanoma on the skin or eye can spread to the brain. Once this occurs, prognosis is very poor and survival rates are low. A melanoma cannot originate in the brain, though.

Melanoma as the name suggests, involves melanocytes that produce melanin, the skin color pigment. This in no way is related to brain cancer. One is external and the other internal.

Brain tumors can start in the brain as the primary type of cancer and melanoma can also spread to the brain resulting in a tumor. Melanoma and brain tumors are both deadly types of cancer if not caught early enough for treatment to be effective. These affect both men and women.

Melanoma refers to a type of cancer that begins in melanocytes, or the cells in the skin that produce the pigment melanin. Primary brain tumors are not melanomas; however, metastatic, or secondary, tumors that can spread from melanoma are often found in the brain. Melanoma has a high rate of brain metastases.

Melanoma is a skin cancer affecting the deep layers of the skin and connective tissue. It often grows rapidly and may have spread to other parts of the body by the time it is detected. If the growth of the melanoma cannot be stopped, the cancer does often metastasize to the brain.

Once you are diagnosed with melanoma and it spreads, brain tumors can develop. Brain tumors can be an offshoot from any other cancer or can develop first in the brain.

They are not immediately related, but melanoma has been known to spread and metastasize in the brain as a tumor. If caught early, this is not usually a concern. It does happen, but usually in more advanced cases.

Melanoma is typically used for a synonym of cancer. If one has a brain tumor that is a melanoma, that means that it is usually malignant. However, this may not mean a bleak prognosis. This will depend on whether or not it has spread and what stage it is in.
