It is a crime to issue bad checks. The law requires that you receive your wages for time worked on the next scheduled payday, regardless how you left the company. Call your employer, then the Labor Board, then file in Small Claims to recover.

First of all, contact your local Wage and Hour office. Fired or not, your friend is entitled to their last check. Also, if they are having a hard time finding work, they can apply for unemployment benifits while searching for a new job. Good luck.

Earned wages must be paid on the next scheduled payday, period. A bad check, which is against the law, has nothing to do with being fired. Call the employer to get it squared away, including reimbursement of any fees incurred. Go to Small Claims to recover if necessary.
