After being insulted by John Phillips, Cass Elliot wanted to leave the group. After the fourth single of the fourth album, the group broke up. A year later, the record company held that the band owed them one more album. The album became a failure and the group officially split.

Well, like all successful musical groups of their era fame and jealousy tore them apart. There was a lot of in fighting between the members, a lot of sexual tensions/breakups.
