The thyroid gland is a very important gland in the body. Not only does it regulate the metabolism but it also controls how your body burns energy and it even controls how your body reacts to other hormones. Amazingly all this is done by a hormone released by the thyroid.

The major function of the thyroid gland, located at the center of your neck, is to produce thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone is one of the major regulators of your body's metabolism. For example, if you have hypothyroidism (too low of levels of the thyroid hormone), you have decreased metabolic activity. Thus, these patients are usually overweight and feel fatigued.
