It administers the provisions of the National Industrial Recovery Act, which authorized President Roosevelt during the Depression to regulate industry, permit cartels and monopolies and create the national public works program in order to stimulate the economic recovery of the country. The NRA administered the system of industrial controls, production, trade practices and labor relations.

National Recovery Administration was set up in the Great Depression in the 1930s. It's task was price controls. It set minimum prices for goods and services. It implemented pricing and production standards. In several cases that went to court, people were jailed for charging less than the minimum price set by the NRA.
