K6 usually refers to the AMD K6 processor, which was released in the late 90s to compete with Intel's line of Pentium processors. The K6 was an x86 architecture processor, and it was made popular because it was generally less expensive than Intel's line. The K6 was later replaced by the K6-II to compete with Intel's Pentium II.
