In May 2009 it was announced that John Gruden had been hired to replace Tony Kornheiser as one of ESPN's Monday Night Football commentators.

Gruden has said that he plans to return to coaching. Since 2009, he has worked as an analyst for ESPN and Monday Night Football, replacing Tony Kornheiser, who resigned due to a fear of flying.

John Gruden, the former NFL head coach of the both the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (whom he won a Super Bowl with) is now a football television analyst with Monday Night Football. He was rumoured to be the next head coach of Notre Dame, but turned it down.
