High levels of TSH, or thyroid-stimulating hormone, could be indicative of primary hypothyroidism which is basically a dysfunctional thyroid gland. If you are on medications such as lithium or potassium iodide, to name a couple, your TSH blood levels may falsely show high.

A high thyroid-stimulating hormone test result often means an underactive thyroid gland that is not responding properly to the stimulation of TSH due to either an acute or chronic thyroid dysfunction or to a lack of medication if previously diagnosed with a thyroid condition. Check with your doctor.

It usually means that you have an underactive thyroid or some other thyroid disfunction. In very rare cases, it can be a sign of pituitary problems.
