It's a diuretic used to treat edema, congestive heart failure, hypertention, and nephrotic syndrome. Possible side effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, heart palpitations, urinary frequency, diarrhea, anorexia, constipation, weakness, palpitations, low potassium, low sodium, low calcium, low chloride, low magnesium, increased creatinine, hyperglycemia, liver inflammation, increased BUN (blood urea nitrogen, a test of kidney function) and sensitivity to the sun.
