What does a US citizen need to know about working in Jamaica?

I will be working in Jamaica as a US citizen soon.

You will still need to file taxes as a us citizen however, because you are eligible for US benefits. Make sure to keep track of your income and then at tax time you will need to state the income you make out of the country, and then that money will be taxed accordingly.

Rely on your employer to prepare you for life in Jamaica with regard to local laws, culture, traditions, customs as well as the particulars of your job responsibilities. An employer who places employees internationally has an HR representative who handles all the particulars.

United States citizens are cosidered as non-commonwealth citizens therefore required to ensure that work permits are obtained before applying for work visas at either a Jamaican Embassy or Consulate.

Working in Jamaica is very different than working in the States. The culture is different as well as the work ethics. It is a beautiful country the people are hard workers & loyal as well. Enjoy the friendly people as well as the weather.
