A high SGOT in a liver function test can indicate many things, but primarily is a sign of liver damage of some sort. A high SGOT test alone is not a conclusive indicator of liver damage, nor does the SGOT level correspond to the level of liver damage. Also, liver damage is not ALWAYS accompanied by a high SGOT test.
