High BUN levels may indicate poor kidney function. Poor kidney function can be caused by kidney disease or injury and sometimes kidney failure. Other reasons could be obstructed urine flow, heart attack, severe stress, injury with shock, or dehydration. If you doctor is concerned further tests should be ordered.
