Most men's hiking boots are waterproof- or if not, you can just coat them with a clear water-repellent spray. They're usually ankle-high to keep splashes out. They might cost more than another pair of shoes or boots but they're good from fall's puddles to winter's slush to spring's decomposing leaves, and they should last for a couple years at least.

I would suggest going to a sporting good store and ask the sales clerks in these stores who are usually very knowledgeable in helping you find the right rain boots for your husband to wear so he does not look girlie. You may want to also check out in the hunting section of the store they sometimes have them to.

The Tretorn 'Strala' Rain Boot is a great choice. It looks great and is also masculine. They are also reasonably priced which never hurts.
