What do you feed kittens when their mother stops taking care of them?

My cat won't have anything to do with her kittens now.

As a cat lover myself and having been in this situation I have given small kitties very diluted regular milk with a dropper. Their stomachs do get used to it but it must be very diluted with water so the kitties don't get the runs on you. Lot of water helps too, they must always be kept hydrated.

For kittens that need mother's milk, you can buy Milk Replacement for Kittens, made by Hartz. It is sold at Wal-Mart for around $10.00 for 8 oz.. You mix it with water. If you use 1 tablespoon of powder, you would mix in 2 tablespoons of water.

Feeding kittens when a mother stops taking care of them depends on the age of the kitten. If the kitten is over six weeks there isn't as much of a concern. If the kitten is younger you would need to make sure they are fed with a special bottle.

Most major brands of cat food have a dry food kitten formula. These are specially formulated for the digestion of kittens. I have found that it is usually best to dampen this food for the first week after weaning. They also need a never ending supply of clean water.

We found 4 other kittens a week later outside, one was half eaten by a raccoon the others froze to death. For some reason the mom just stopped taking care of them. call animal control they will feed and clean them and then give them to a shelter. People adopt young kittens so fast. They will be happier.

You need to get a milk replacement formulated for kittens. You can substitute goat's milk, but do not use cow's milk.

Depending on the kittens' age, they should not be fed solid food until 6 weeks, but goat milk until then in a bottle works well.
