Unfortunately you will probably need to go see your doctor. An infection could be something serious. Make an appointment with your regular doctor right away. In the meantime make sure you are drinking plenty of water. That will help whenever you suspect you may have some kind of an infection.

If you have already tried an antibiotic ointment and this has not cleared the problem then you should make an appointment with a dermatologist or your family doctor.

Because infections related to eczema are caused by bacteria, the best course of action is an antibiotic or antiseptic treatment. There are lotions and creams that can be applied topically and which contain either antibacterial treatments or a combination of antibacterial treatment and a steroid. Oral antibiotics may also be necessary.

Keep the area clean is the first step. Apply an antibiotic ointment and wrap it for a couple of days. If it does not improve within 48 hours or at anytime it appears to get worse then you want to seek medical treatment as soon as possible.
