GFR measures renal function. It's the volume of fluid filtered from the kidneys. Kidneys filter blood, and compunds needed are reabsorb to blood and thoses that the body do not need are excreted in urine. When this function does not work the results of GFR won't be normal.

Normal results are between 90 and 120. A sign of chronic kidneys disease are under 60 for 3 months. Under 15 mean kidney failure.

Doctors use the glomerular filtration rate to measure a patients level of kidney function and if needed to determine the stage of kidney disease. The rate is calculated based on results of your blood creatinine test and other factors including your age, race and gender.
