Laws vary from country to country and state to state. In some cases, computer trespassing is seen the same as physical breaking and entering, a very serious offense. The best rule of thumb is, if it isn't yours, don't try to trespass into it, unless you don't mind the thought of a few years in jail.

Computer trespassing is using a computer or program without the authority or said owner to do such things as deleting or corrupting data, stealing data, or copying data.

Well, trespassing is quite a general term. In general, to prevent trespassing, have a good anti-virus software that you can regularly keep updated. Also have a moderately good firewall and also have strong passwords (use Lower and upper case characters, along with numbers and special characters)
