Complex cyst tend to be rare and consist of both solid and liquid components. If not treated ovarian cysts can become cancerous, are painful and uncomfortable. They can also cause a miscarriage and/or cause infertility. Contributing causes tend to be obesity and lifestyle. Treatment tends to consist of surgery, however, drug management may be considered.

If you know the exact size of your cyst, you've clearly already been to see your doctor and you need to follow their recommendation. In general, treatment options range from drugs to see if the cyst will shrink to immediate emergency surgery. This depends on the origin of the cyst and if it is benign or malignant.

An ovarian cyst that large is concerning. It will probably have to be removed, and may leave you infertile during or after.

For the most part nothing needs to be done to treat an ovarian cyst, if they are causing you pain they can be drained.

Rose, that's the worst advice I've ever read about ovarian cysts. What you wrote is just not true and could endanger anyone with such a cyst. The true answer is that anyone with an ovarian cyst needs to see a Dr. ASAP and possibly undergo surgery -- not just drainage!  add a comment

Complex ovarian cysts are unusual in that they and contain liquid and solid material. There are three kinds of complex ovarian cysts. Dermoid, endometrioma, and cystadenomas. Immediate diagnoses is recommended.

An ovarian cyst can cause a lot of pain. Watch for increased pain or vaginal bleeding. These could indicate a rupture and require emergency surgery.
