Answer by  Herman (43)

Stay off the injured knee and keep it elevated. Apply ice packs for 15-20 minutes at a time. Use the pain reliever of your choice to reduce pain and inflammation.

You will need to immobilize the knee for several weeks. If the kneecap is shattered it will need a replacement (i. e. surgery).

You may want to go to the doctor and have it checked out. Most importantly, keep the weight off of that foot.

First of all, you should see the bone specialist. Depending on the exact fracture site, the extent of the injury, and whether or not surrounding tissues are damaged will depend on the action needed. In many knee injury and/or fracture cases minor or major surgery may be needed to prevent future problems.

Go to emergency room and get x-rayed. If you can do a straight leg lift, surgery not required. Non-operative treatment, drain knee if swollen to relieve pain. Use knee brace.
