The doctors are looking for an enzyme called serum GPT that is normally found in the liver and if it is too high it can indicate liver problems such as cell death.
Doctors want to see the amount of GPT enzyme in the blood. Through this test it can be detected if liver is diseased or damaged. High levels of this enzyme could point to damaged liver.
There is nothing to panic. The blood sgpt test is merely a diagnostic one to see whether the liver functions are normal. Abnormal liver functions lead to high sgpt values
